Wyre Forest Search & Rescue test
Wyre Forest search & rescue team recently teamed up with Unilite to test our latest range of LED Head torches, flashlights, lanterns and remote area lighting. The Wyre Forest team consists of around 40 volunteers and as such rely on donations to fund their services. This is a big decision when investing in kit for the team, and members want to buy and use products that will last for a considerable duration. Return on investment has to be justified in all areas ensuring public donations are spent appropriately. Unilite where invited along to demonstrate the advantages of using our products over competing items to show the durability of our products in emergency situations. SARA’s Wyre Forest station is located at Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Services (HWFRS) Kidderminster Fire Station, The combined resources of SARA and HWFRS ensures the area is better prepared for any local water rescue incidents and large scale flooding responses. The station houses three SARA inshore rescue boats, SARA 8, SARA 9, SARA 10 and 4 rescue sleds alongside two Land Search / Boat Haulage vehicles MRU 4 and MRU 6,Also located at Wyre forest is an incident support unit ISU and an off Road Ambulance MRU5 in addition to HWFRS assets. The station provides an appliance bay for a vehicle and two boats As well as a garage at the rear of the station which houses one vehicle and one boat as well as all of the crew PPE and spare equipment.
After getting prepared for the evening a call was made to the station for an Emergency situation with a lady who had fallen in a nearby woodland area of Habberley Valley. With all the kit loaded two rescue teams headed out to respond to the emergency call and arrived swiftly. One complaint many team members had of their old head torches was the run time and light output. They found they couldn’t have both and as such suffered when lighting conditions deteriorated quickly. They found certain times of the year such as winter required higher light output but this was made at the expense of the battery run time. After using the head torches Kate the team supervisor said ” The head torches were absolutely brilliant, it makes all the difference when responding and ensures all crew members are safe. The one area I was most impressed with was the weight of the products. We carry so much kit that lighter items are perfect for what we need. ”
